چکیده
Abstract In this paper, we document that glaciofluvial gravel sequences and glacial till deposits are exposed in the Müntschemier Finsterhennen pits (Swiss Plateau west of Bern) record three advances during Birrfeld Glaciation, which corresponds to last cycle. Sedimentological logging shows both expose braided river systems. These sediments overlain by a was deposited Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). The results provenance analysis imply were mainly supplied Valais Glacier, originated Central Alps. A minor contribution material Saane Glacier with sources northern parts addition, morphometric particularly quartzite clasts indicate while some (the angular ones) eroded transported from Alps depositional site, majority constituents rounded most likely reworked Molasse bedrock or older gravels. This implies large fraction could represent recycled fluvial gravels conglomerates then glaciers as they advanced foreland. Luminescence dating of glaciofluvial deposits linked to the penultimate glaciation in the Eastern Alps
During the penultimate glaciation vast areas of the Alps were glaciated, with piedmont glaciers protruding into the foreland. In the easternmost part of the northward draining valleys of the Alps, the glaciers did not reach the foreland, but formed valley glaciers confined by the mountainous terrain. This also applies to the Ybbs valley, where samples for luminescence dating out of glaciofluvia...
